StrengthsQuest at Onondaga
StrengthsQuest™ (SQ) is a program that helps us learn what we do best, and then how to build our studies, careers, and lives--capitalizing on those talents. Focusing on our individual talents, abilities, and ways of seeing and interacting with the world around us can help us more easily overcome obstacles while increasing our motivation and the likelihood of success.
How can it help me?
StrengthsQuest™ focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses, and can help you:
- Discover innate talents and develop them into strengths;
- Gain a clearer understanding of yourself and others;
- Determine a rewarding career path;
- Improve grades and increase learning;
- Uncover your life purpose.
How can I participate?
Students enrolled in First-Year Seminar (FYS 101) should receive a SQ access code and instructions to complete the online StrengthsFinder inventory. Or you may be expected to obtain the code at the college bookstore and complete the inventory as part of another course. If you are not using StrengthsQuest in a class, simply request SQ information at Counseling (Coulter Library, Room 230). After completing the online inventory (you’ll need about 35-40 minutes of uninterrupted time), be sure to read the descriptive paragraphs of your top 5 signature themes. You’ll be amazed.
Then, check out the Intro to Strengths Workshop #1. You’ll be glad you did.
What Students Are Saying...
“StrengthsQuest helped me understand myself better, and not just as a student. The things I learned made sense in all facets of my life including my relationships and even my parenting. I see myself through a different lens now based on my strengths and not my weaknesses. It is surprising to see these talents show up once you have a way to recognize them. After taking part in StrengthsQuest I also see the strengths of others. It has given me a better understanding of not only myself, but those around me. StrengthsQuest is definitely valuable for all students to take.”
