On-campus Opportunities
ESL Mentoring Service
Contact: Susan Savedoff (498-2260) or Maria Malagisi (498-7207)
Needs: The ESL Mentoring Service matches English speaking students, faculty or staff up with International students so that they may meet weekly at prearranged sites. The benefits are obvious – the International students acclimate to American culture with the help of their new American companion, English is practiced, both students learn much about each other’s cultures, and many new friends are made.
Time Commitment: One hour/week - day/time agreed with your conversation partner.
SCSD/OCC Campus Based Learning
Contact: Maureen Blake-Cooper, (498-6092), Coyne Building, 207A
Needs: This is a program for teens in the Syracuse City School District who have a developmental disability and are transitioning from high school to the work force. They need OCC students to assist one of the four SCSD teens with their day to day activities or lessons while they attend the OCC program, attend college hour activities with them or just spend some one-on-one time with them. You will have fun and develop a meaningful relationship!
