The State University of New York's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides access, academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not have otherwise been offered admission. Available to full-time, matriculated students, the program supports students throughout their college careers within the college.
EOP was established in 1967 to fulfill New York State's commitment to access higher education. EOP combines access, academic support, and supplemental financial assistance to make higher education possible for students who have the potential to succeed, despite poor preparation and limited financial resources. EOP now exists on 45 campuses in the State University of New York (SUNY). Today, EOP graduates from SUNY number more than 45,000. Among their number are physicians, teachers, scientists, engineers, attorneys, artists, entrepreneurs, and public servants. A significant majority of EOP graduates stay, work, and pay taxes in New York. This is a huge return on investment to the New York State economy.
