New Public Website Launch

Over the course of the past year, OCC's Marketing & New Media and ITS teams have been working on a website rebuild project that is focused on OCC’s public (sunyocc.edu), student (students.sunyocc.edu), and employee (employees.sunyocc.edu) websites. This has included moving the sites into the cloud and onto a modern content management system that handles all of the back-end content you see on the sites. The purposes of this project are to improve functionality and our ability to use the websites to support student enrollment, retention, and completion. Efforts have included:

  • Research, analytics, and user testing to support a student-first approach
  • An improved mobile interface and functionality (more than half of our site traffic is from mobile devices)
  • A "filter-able" experience that allows users to select program offerings based on their interests and goals
  • Content that's shorter and simpler, especially in terms of reducing jargon and increasing clarity about complex processes

Phase 1 is scheduled to launch this week and includes the public homepage as well as many key areas of the public website. In addition, this fall we will roll out more new features like an improved search tool and a new employee directory.  

Phase 2 is scheduled to be complete by January 2020 and will include all remaining public site content and current student site content.

Phase 3 is scheduled for Summer 2020 and will include the employee website.
