
Full Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM)
Eligible students are encouraged to apply for a large number of National Science Foundation S-STEM Scholarships to be awarded this year. Students selected as STEM scholars will receive up to $10,000 per year for up to two years, depending upon the level of financial need and fund availability. Students who meet the following eligibility criteria are eligible to apply:
- Enrollment in Onondaga’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
- Demonstrated high academic achievement with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Matriculated in a STEM degree program, full-time; Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file
- US citizen, permanent resident alien or non-US citizen eligible for Federal Title IV (Federal student aid) funds
NSF Scholars will be selected on a competitive basis, based on academic achievement and commitment to continuing studies in a STEM program at a four-year institution and/or entering a STEM career upon graduation. Selected scholars will be recognized as outstanding STEM students.
Recipients will:
- Automatically become members of the prestigious and exclusive Onondaga NSF Scholar Organization.
- Be assigned a faculty mentor to provide academic and career advice.
- Be assigned a peer mentor to provide academic support and prepare you to serve as a role model and mentor to other STEM students.
Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in special programs and to pursue internship and/or research experiences in your degree programs. Have opportunities to work on related research and receive funding to participate in poster presentations.
- Join various activities, such as seminars and site visits, to enhance exposure and networking skills.
- Participate in other CSTEP and Onondaga enrichment activates, conferences campus visits and workshops.

How to Apply
To apply for this prestigious new program, you will need to complete an application (pdf), if you have not already done so, and submit a brief essay (no more than 2 pages, double-spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font) using the following guidelines:
- Briefly address why you enrolled in your program of study
- What do you consider as one of your greatest strengths and one of your greatest weaknesses?
- What achievements (academic, work, or other) are you proud of? What obstacles did you overcome in the process?
- Briefly address what you hope to accomplish during your time at Onondaga and what are your plans after graduation.
